Sports Massage In Loughton with JS Fitness

We are now offering Sports Massage at our Loughton Clinic with Gil Saville.

Sports massage therapy is a proven way to release and reduce tension in muscles, improve circulation and can help to relax the body. All of this helps promote recovery and reduces the chance of muscle injury.  A sports massage is similar to a deep tissue massage in that you will feel relaxed and at ease, but it also offers much more.
A sports massage therapist will have undertaken further education and training to be able to deliver a massage that can target the specific muscle that is injured and reduce the injury or the sense of pain you are feeling. They will also combine other techniques, such as stretching exercises, to help muscles and soft tissue recover from an injury faster than a traditional deep-tissue massage. The main focus of a sports massage is not relaxation but injury prevention and treatment.

What is a sports massage?

Sports massage therapy is the assessment, management and treatment of soft tissue, muscle and ligament dysfunction within the musculoskeletal system. A sports massage therapist will look to identify the cause of the issue you are facing rather than treat the symptoms being caused.

Traditionally, sports massage therapy is the application of different massage techniques to an athlete to help prevent or prepare for a sport or exercise. Sports massage therapy has many benefits, in that it can be used to address injuries that have already happened, easing the pain and discomfort of them, shorten recovery time between exercises and improve an athlete’s performance by improving flexibility, range of motion and muscle functionality.

In more recent times, that idea, however, is shifting. People are now beginning to see the benefits that a sports massage could have on day-to-day life and in fact, are calling for the name to be changed to “soft tissue therapy” as they feel it better represents their skills. The massage techniques are applied to various muscles, ligaments and tendons of the body that people will naturally use or potentially injure every day.
